In this resolution ECOS requests EPA work with all stakeholders to achieve reductions in mercury pollution consistent with federal statutes and that the federal government support research on alternatives to mercury and on mercury pollution controls. ECOS also requests EPA minimize potential preemption of states or local mercury reduction programs under TSCA. Additionally ECOS requests that the federal government implement the Mercury Export Ban Act by siting and opening the mercury storage facility called for in the act and ensuring the safety of any interim transport and storage of excess mercury until the storage facility is open. EPA is called on top convene a national amalgam separator review committee and to implement ECOS’ recommendations regarding TSCA Mercury Inventory requirements. And ECOS calls on the federal government to provide resources to support work under the Minamata Convention.
